Hey guys, I just bought and planted some lavender from Provence, France, today (I chickened out of growing it from seed!). Anyway, when it's ready to harvest in a couple months, I'd like to infuse it in order to make some use of it. Hence, because my brother's birthday is in June, as is Father's Day, I would love to make both he and my dad some lavender shaving cream this June! Anyone got any shaving cream formulas that the men in your lives seem to especially love?! ;o)

Take Care,
Wade

    This one is very nice:
    1/2 c distilled water
    1tsp borax
    1/3 c coconut oil
    1 tbs liquid lanolin
    1 tbs beeswax, grated
    2 tsp sweet almond oil
15 drops lavender oil (you could just make an infusion in the water)
    1/3 c aloe vera gel
In saucepan, bring water to boil (add fresh lavender) , simmer 15 min, then add borax. Stir until dissolved. In another saucepan over low heat - combine coconut oil, lanolin, beeswax and almond oil. Stir until wax is melted. Remove from heat. Strain lavender from water/borax mixture. Slowly pour water blend into the oils while stirring with whisk. Continue stirring until mixture thickens and has cooled to room temp. Once cool blend two tablespoons of this lavender cream with 1/3 cup aloe vera gel. And there you have it. The lavender cream alone also makes a nice foot rub - so you could do both. good luck

Do you think the recipe would still work if you used glycerin instead of lanolin? My husband is allergic to it.

I am also allergic to lanolin,- and have had terrible trouble finding creams and such without it..
but now I am using a body wash oil, made of 40% soy oil and 40% liquid paraffin, the rest ist camomille extract of sorts..

I am shaving with this too, and my skin has never been softer and smoother.

You could try the recipe below substituting the lanolin with liquid paraffin.

just to agree - I expect that paraffin, or some oil/wax that is similar in texture to lanolin would be the best substitute - I can't imagine glycerin making the same difference in the recipe. For recipes like this, you need the chemical properties of the oil/fat, which glycerin just doesn't have. Although I am sure you could find a way to add glycerin if you wanted, I'm not nearly good enough to improvise my own recipes yet - but I'm working on it.
