Smoke Camp Crafts makes a "bronchial blend" tea with:
    Coltsfoot, Mullein, Hoarhound, Lungwort, Ephedra,
Eucalyptus, Licorice and Pleurisy Roots, Wild cherry bark

Smoke Camp Crafts, 1289 Smoke Camp Road, Weston, WV 304-269-641
(Call for price list, or to order.)

Another good tea blend is Yogi Tea's "Breathe Deep".
It contains Licorice Root, Basil Leaf, Eucalyptus Leaf,
Ginger Root, Cinnamon Bark, Thyme Leaf,
    Elecampane Root, Peppermint Leaf,
    Cardamom seed and Mullein Leaf.

The thing about Bronchitus, is that you have to let your body process it through. That means, you have to eventually hock up (expectorate) the stuff that is congesting your lungs. Try to be gentle with it.

I work with homeless teens, so there is always plenty of germs to go around...we had some sort of ICK being passed around my office recently and I found that a combination of slippery elm and marshmallow root tea seemed to do the trick. Most of us used that combination and felt huge relief the next day and in the continuing days following. It seemed to help us get rid of it faster.

all the herbal suggestions here soound excellent.

osha root along with elecampane will help the body fight the infection. a friend of mine used to grind osha into a powder and make an osha honey to add to infusions and decoctions. good untreated preferably local honey is itself good for fighting respiratory infections; I recently read a study where a teaspoon of honey given to children with colds at bedtime resulted in less coughing and better sleep.

my favorite book on the topic is Breathe FreeL Nutritional and Botanical Medicine fort the Respiratory SYstem, by Daniel Gagnon and Amadea Morningstar. there is an entire chapter on acute bronchitis.
I'm also emphasize carotene-ruch foods for Vitamin A - deep green and deep yellow vegetables especially - and avoid anything known to me more musuc-producing; dairy products, fried foods, most baked goods especialy with white flour, sauces or soups thickened with flour and cornstarch.

I respond really well to echinacea tincture taken thorughout the day for at least four days to help fight infections...get the strongest and freshest product you can find, made from the root and rhizomes.

there are some traditional Chinese blends that are really effctive but I'm not as familiar with CHinese herbs so would advise speaking with a practitioner if that's the route you want to go. acupuncture is the other main branch of classical Chinese medicine and it is really helpful with balancing energy for lingering inmfections and other stubborn problems.

            hope you feel better soon.

I'm away form home and don;t have the book in front of me. I agree that you want to loosen the mucus and bring it up, rather than surpress the cough. lots of water and warm to hot broth.

the culinary herb thyme (ther are many types) in cooking as well as brewed into a medicinal tea, is wonderful for coughs. Traditional Medicinals started using it as an ephedra substitute in their blends, and I've found it really effective.

we use a mix of lomatium extract, black elderberry and vitamin c in any form(usually rosehips) a good blend to knock it out. we take the mix for about 6 days. recommend to only take lomatium for 6 days to knock nasty virals out. we have also gotten the "lomatium' rash which is sometimes accompanied with lomatium intake. It actually looks like the measels and only something like 5% of people who take lomatium will get the rash-just a forewarn & the rash appeared on day 6-7 of taking the lomatium. it is potent and without it we could have bronchitis still in our system after all these years. but the rash never has been accompanied by fever or itching in any kind(no record of that either)
